I love how the chocolate rules in this recipe. Between the cacao powder and cacao nibs you have a chocolate smoothie dream. Mine is usually too thick to drink through a straw so I have to break out the spoon, which is perfectly okay with me. It makes it easier to take in the crunch of the cacao nibs and fully indulge in all of the chocolate glory.

A quick note on the cacao nibs, they aren’t required for this recipe, however, the nutritional benefits alone make them totally worth the addition to me. You can drop them if you need to adjust nutrition for tracking or taste purposes. If you want to add them in, but don’t want the crunch put them in during the blending process. If you would rather have the crunch, stir them in after blending.

I calculated the recipe for only 1 tbsp of cacao nibs for 2 servings, however when I make this for myself I usually use 3 tbsp and split the addition between both blended in and stirred in, then eat both servings in one sitting.

Here’s the nutrition information on record at the USDA for branded products for the cacao nibs I personally use, Navitas Organics. There are 10g carbs per 3 tbsp (their serving size), however there is also 8g fiber, so if you’re calculating net carbs, that means it’s only an addition of 2 carbs. Add in the magnesium and potassium and this smoothie just got better.

Recipe Notes

If you have trouble blending your smoothie you can add in more liquid. Additional heavy cream, almond milk, coconut milk, or water are all options. Remember to adjust your nutrition calculations if you change the recipe.
